A place for artists, a place for art

After (forced) departure from the collective spaces of Le Brise-Glace and from september 2009 on, we have established at the Train Fantôme, a 115 m2 2-storey house, which is property of the municipality of Grenoble. It is towered over by a railway bridge and stands at the crossing of very busy streets. The place is located on a border, between the Berriat district (on the opposite edge of which stood the Brise-Glace) and the city centre ; it is a border but a crossing point as well, where flows of people meet between the railway station and the Estacade market, the Jean-Jaurès avenue and the St Bruno square, in the middle of trains, trolleys and cars, the frantic atmosphere of market mornings and the quiet of afternoon passers-by.

This is where we are working now, with the ambition of making of it an open place, connected with our different networks as well as with the neighborhood. The Train Fantôme is already our laboratory and a starting point for many urban explorations and drifts. It is also a place for hosting artists in residencies, with whom we share interests.

concert

"Sharp Claws Cats"

monday 19 may at 8:00 p.m

Le Train Fantôme has improvised the hosting of Sharp Claws Cats, who were touring in the area.

A duo of doublebass player David Chiesa and violonist Mathieu Werchowski, who are familiar to us on more than one account: David had played in december of 2012 with Mathias Forge, and Mathieu had been involved with Ici-Même from 1994 to 1999 !
Both of them campaign for an improvised music that could mingle with any form of art in any kind of place.
Lyrical as well as sonical, their music unveils a wide landscape, arid, uncluttered, tormented or hypnotic.
Pushing the possibilities of their instruments to their limits, they are looking for the acoustic vibration of a place and the souls that dwell in.

residency

Research residency part 1

from april 14th to 20th, 2014

Le Train Fantôme hosts Fanny Martin, musician, Magali Albespy and Anne-Catherine Nicoladze, dancers, for the first part of a reasearch residency. They will be back next autumn.

The research is about the notation - as an experimental frame and matter of improvisation - and the interaction between sound and movement. Musique concrète, contact-improvisation, some accessories found on the way, and the will experiment with a space as it is. At first they were surprised by the – relative –narrowness of our place, damaged their feet with the splinters of our worn-out hardwood floor, but they really have encountered Le Train Fantôme, sketching out a dance and sounds that really fitted the place. Sensitive, experimental… we are looking forward to the next time.

Saturday 8th March 2014 from 10:30 to 1 pm

An open window on Vincent Bonnet’s works In residence at the Train Fantôme

Train Fantôme, Ici Même’s studio and art lab welcomes Vincent Bonnet for a week’s research time on his works Hypersubjects

Photographer, editor, visual artist, iconoclast, Vincent Bonnet takes much interest in the image, the conditions of its appearance, its territories of action, its vernacular uses, its production stakes. His long lasting project aims to create a live archive, a ressorce composed of efficient and critical images, which he tries to settle within social and political fields. He tries to make a step aside : from arts towards action, from silliness towards thought, from art work towards collective works.
At Train Fantôme, he will go on shooting pictures for Hypersubjects, work in progress for several years*.

*End of April 2007, the beginnings ...
"The presidential election campaign is now complete. Something is unbearable for me in candidates' speeches reported on medias. I take my old Rolleiflex case and I go and take a picture of all candidates - there, where I meet every day their silent faces : on election signs in my neighborhood. An exorcism practice. I went on, from time to time, shooting portraits of public figures, opening it to other fields - advertising, entertainment, media, show business etc. " VB
